Wildwood City Hall and Police Station

The Wildwood City Hall includes city hall functions, a community room and a precinct police station. At the Main Street level the police station has a dedicated drive and secure garage. The council chambers features generous floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto a walled courtyard which provides a connection to the outdoors while providing for a higher level of security. A multipurpose community meeting/workshop space opens to the central lobby and flanks the council chambers to double as council work session space. The upper level houses the city’s planning and administrative functions. The building engages the streetscape with a prominent public face and civic plaza and reduces impact on the land by preserving nearly half of the existing site. High performance windows provide beneficial daylighting and views while helping meet energy savings goals.

As part of the community’s strong record of environmental protection the city council established a goal that the project should achieve at least LEED "Silver" certification. As sustainable design and LEED consultant Hellmuth + Bicknese felt early on that Gold certification would increase the environmental protections and value to the community and was achievable on budget. In November 2013 the project was awarded LEED Gold certification. Green features include over 40% water savings, better than 33% energy savings, and exceptional stormwater and site solutions. After a year of operation the energy performance was validated and the building is exceeding projected energy savings despite unusually harsh weather – resulting in a significant cost savings to the community.
