Project Info:
The Gene Simon Family Cottage is Chaddock’s first stage of its overall Master Facility Plan. The Gene Simon Cottage serves as a Developmental Trauma and Attachment Program and Residential Treatment facility for youth. Environmental attributes include over 30% water savings, 10% recycled materials, and at least 75% construction waste diverted from landfill through recycling. Most finishes contain low or no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), improving indoor air quality. Over 75% of the indoor spaces utilize daylighting, and over 90% have outside views. Energy savings, projected at 37%, through the use of a geothermal heat pump, highly efficient, insulated windows, and a tight building envelope. Automatic lighting controls such as occupancy sensors and photo cells reduce energy use. Stormwater is treated on site by rain gardens, a pervious-paver patio, and pervious concrete parking lot. The cottage has achieved LEED-NC Gold certification.
