Project Info:

Lemay Plaza serves as an attractive gateway to the south end of the community and has created an attractive urban space that builds connections between Notre Dame High School and Hancock Place High School. Students from both schools were instrumental in helping initiate the project and remained involved throughout the design process. The plaza features pervious paving, raingardens, custom bike racks, a custom bus shelter and a curving sculptural wall that provides seating. In the center of the plaza is a neighborhood landmark tower that features the larger Lemay branding plan. The students helped design the branding atop the neighborhood tower and the bike racks. H+B worked closely with local metal crafter Dras Fabrication & Design on the tower details. The sculptural wall features regional limestone and the seat tops are clad with salvaged sinker cypress wood. A bicycle pump was included at the bike racks and all together creates a hub for area bicyclists that builds upon the network of Great Rivers Greenway trails nearby.
