The three-story 183,400 sq. ft. Nevada Cancer Institute Medical Research Building located at the Summerlin, NV campus is seeking LEED for New Construction certification and opened in October 2009. The building houses research laboratories and offices for cancer research. Laboratories are typically big energy users in large part due to the ventilation demands. Energy efficient ventilation systems, heating and cooling systems and lighting systems and an efficient building envelope resulted in greater than an 18% estimated energy savings beyond typical conservation standards.
