Project Info:

H+B was chosen to design the major renovation and addition to Principia College’s Voney Art Studio. The existing building is prominently located atop the scenic river bluff and affords spectacular views of the Mississippi River.

The charming addition consists of an Art College, studio offices for Art Department Faculty, and a well-designed entry space. The building has been completely transformed and all spaces have access to the outdoor deck overlooking the majestic Mississippi. The Art Center now boasts natural ventilation systems and is engulfed with natural light from the ample windows and clerestories. Art students and Faculty are now enriched within modernized art studios, workshop spaces, outdoor areas, study nooks, and relaxing lounge areas.

"The revitalization of Voney is the tangible realization of an idea and a vision initiated several years ago. This idea acknowledges the vital role of art in society- art's capacity to both embrace beauty and offer social critique-- and the value and strong history of the visual arts at Principia as a liberal arts college...Preserving Voney's choice location on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, the new building's design is both inspiring and supremely functional. Its open, light-filled studios and hallways invite creativity, promoting unlimited thought and productive dialogue. For many years into the future, it will be a pleasure for the Principia community and its visitors to witness the exciting art and ideas generated within this beautiful space."
